So yeah remember that one post I made ages ago about wanting to debunk the pop culture Spock and Kirk myths? Well, here’s part two of that segment.

Thanks to greenscrewdriver and itreallyisthelittlethings for checks and added ideas.

Kirk isn’t a womanizer. He’s a homme fatale. He uses his sexuality as a tool in situations where he has no other leverage, often when the woman has a physical advantage over him due to weapons or magical abilities or some such, over and over again. And as the slides show, when he’s actually romantically interested in someone he behaves very differently, and he does take it really slow. When he flirts with a woman heavily and quickly, you can be sure that he’s doing it in order to get into or out of a larger plot situation, rather than in order to satisfy his own sexual urges.

Using one’s sexuality, rather than force or technology, as a tool to regain an upper hand is historically a very female trope, and I think that’s why people have trouble recognizing that that’s what Kirk is doing. But that’s what it is.

So there’s a difference. TOS Kirk was an ardent feminist, and I am so sick of this AOS sexyKirk pop culture idea of him.

debra-motherfucking-morgan asked: Yes, except having an opinion that differs from your's does not automatically put me into the "ignorant white person" category. I'm sorry to inform you. Also, just because you can see some white skin in my display picture does not mean I don't fit into any groups other than "stupid white person". "Shut up because you're white" seems like a last resort for people that don't want anyone to disagree with them. A lot of people may think that's valid, but I think it's weak and kind of sad.

now let me explain something to y’all

if you have a stance on an issue that affects other human beings such as racism, cultural appropriation, feminism, abortion, lgbtquia+ representation, etc

and you don’t back it up with empirical evidence as to why you feel that way

then guess what?

1) You probably don’t understand the fundamental difference between “I don’t like strawberries” and “I think all feminists are bra-burners”

which means:

2) You probably only form judgements on these issues that literally affect other people based on your own vague, usually problematic criteria

which means:

3) You refuse to change your opinion based on fact

which means:

4) I don’t have to respect, listen to, or debate your shit-ass opinion

Wow!  we sure did learn something here today didn’t we

No one is “entitled” to an opinion that perpetuates harmful stereotypes and furthers violence against an entire group of people.

So, in conclusion, what two white girls think about something that directly affects and harms entire groups of people is 100% completely invalid and irrelevant. What’s sad and weak is that you think this is a matter of opinion when it’s a matter of anthropological FACT supported by statistical evidence.

"But it’s my opinion" is the TRUE last resort, and it’s truly pathetic, weak and sad that while you ‘feel' that way, we have the life experience, empirical knowledge and statistical research to back up what we’re saying.

Shut the fuck up, go sit in the corner and reevaluate the life choices that have led you to bring this pure ignorance into my askbox.

LOL ‘having an opinion that differs,’ my asshole.

The virtue of an opinion is that it has no value. Any opinion with demonstrated utility is no longer just “an opinion”.

We should reject the idea that opinions are important simply because we have them.

I don’t even know what this about, but I’m reblogging for that last sentence.

Knot the Apple on Etsy

So not too long ago, I had an online shop where I made and sold nail polish.  My brand was called Lacquer Convention and operated mostly on Etsy.  I closed the shop abruptly for personal and professional reasons, but recently, I’ve decided to reopen to sell off all the additional inventory, which happens to be quite a bit of nail polish that’s been stored in my house since then.

I’m hoping you guys can help signal boost and such so I can get some sales moving along!

In addition to the polish I used to offer, I’m rebottling previous colors into a Star Trek themed collection and also selling my Star Trek friendship bracelets through this Etsy store as well!  It’d be awesome if you could signal boost and check out the store! Thanks for any support!
